Walk Out on Fear
Max Lucado says in his book Fearless(Imagine Your Life without Fear).
“We fear being sued, finishing last, going broke, we fear a mole on the back, the new kid on the block, the sound of the clock that ticks us closer to the grave.”
“Fear herds us into a prison and slams the doors.
Wouldn’t it be great to walk out”
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
Fear is a thief that wants to destroy our faith and cloud our minds with darkness. According to God’s word we have not been given a “spirit of fear”. We have been given power, love , and self-discipline. These qualities He has given are weapons against fear. He has given us supernatural power to defeat fear. He has shown that He loves us and is for us. I get it. However, I find it interesting one of those qualities is self discipline. On the surface I would not equate discipline to have anything to do with fear.
How does discipline help me against fear? Fear is a battle in the mind. There are things we face every day that can cause us to fear. It takes a tremendous amount of discipline to say no to its call. Our minds have to be disciplined to turn away from fearful thoughts. We must train our minds to dwell on things above not things below. Lucado’s quoted above said, “fear is a prison”. But the good news is it cannot hold us if we choose God every day. We can walk out on it.
I am going to walk away from fear today. Anyone else want to join me?
