A Whirlpool of Shadows

This world is moving away from God. Its culture, its views, its own sense of logic are all moving away. As I was praying this week, I saw a giant whirlpool slowly churning round and round pulling everything down its vortex away from the presence of God. The influence of the pool extended so far out that you would not even realize you were in it at first as the current was weaker away from the center.

Among others, I saw many Christians in the outer edges of the pool totally unaware they were moving away from God. They were slowly being pulled into the stronger currents. It was relatively easy for someone to get out of the pool in its outer edges. But the problem was if you did not get out, you would be pulled in further and further. With each passing spin in the pool it became more difficult for people to get out even if they wanted to as the currents pull became stronger. Another thing I noticed about this whirlpool is there were many entrances into to it. It was not a narrow entrance like the kingdom of God but was wide and could be entered quite easily from many different places.

We live in a world of fuzzy logic, a land of shadows. Spiritual things can be hard to see in the chaotic pace of life. So many opinions. So much spin. So many sources of information. So many enticements. Even our own experiences, hurts, failures, successes can skew our perception of heaven’s reality if viewed outside the presence of God. All this can make it hard to find clarity. With so many decisions that need to be made now, with life so busy and very little time, confusion abounds. And yes, the subtle pull away from God is there everyday. Its current is always working in the world.

The only place to find clarity and stay out of the world’s current is in the presence of God. To approach the throne is to enter a place where logic is perfect, where there is no shifting, no waning, where all things are right, where there is pure light that dark influences cannot touch.

As we often struggle with life it can be hard for us to get our minds around the fact that God already knows the end. He knew it before the start. He has perfect clarity on every situation. The things we struggle to figure out, He already has the answers. Before we even existed, He had the solution. There is no question, situation, or crisis that strains or stresses Him.

If we stay in the current of the world, our hearts and minds will be distorted from the clarity of heaven’s reality that God has called us to walk. Our logic will be the world’s logic and our answers will be the world’s answers. We will live from crisis to crisis instead of from glory to glory. Ultimately we end up in confusion and cold to the reality of God.

But if we daily enter into the presence of God, we escape the world’s current. Really the only place where the pull of that whirlpool does not exist is in the presence of God. It is in that place we can find clarity of mind, purpose and mission. We can walk in His wisdom and have our decisions defined by His logic, not our own. Chaos may surround us but it will not affect us.

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. Revelation 20:11
